A game designer
with a less-than-conventional origin story.
Quinn Elmer
One weekend in college at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, my friend invited me to come to a small studio and make music for a Game Jam event. The next 48 hours were a crash course on game-making. I sat composing melodies and mixing sounds, encircled by glowing screens, tangled cables, and bustling artists and programmers. In that weekend, I learned more about collaboration and motivation than in any classroom. I also started my journey as a game maker.
At their core, games teach us. We might learn a mechanic. Or we might learn about ourselves. That teaching power inherent in games is something that can be harnessed by indie and AAA studios alike.
Six years later, I graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In the Technology, Innovation, and Education (TIE) program, I researched the power of media and entertainment on young audiences. In the meantime, I’ve made multiple video games of different scales with many different studios.
I want to make games with heart, that tell a story, and help us learn about ourselves.
Let’s make one together?
